This is one of Allah’s Most Beautiful Names: Al-Baseer (the All-Seeing) is the One, Whose sight encompasses all things in the worlds, be they hidden or public, small or big, trivial or significant.

الْبَصِيرُ

When Sight is attributed to Allah, it becomes the power therewith all things that could be seen by vision are clearly visible:

No vision can grasp Him. But Hisgrasp is over all vision: He is above all comprehension, yet is acquainted with all things.

Surah Al-An’am 103

In commentary of this Holy Statement, it is said that Allah Almighty tells that He comprehends all things related to vision; and this gives a clear proof that none barring He could be well-acquainted with the reality of the vision of His creatures, and why it is assigned to eyes apart from the other organs of the body.

And since none has full knowledge of the reality of the vision of His creatures: what then about Him, Whom no vision could grasp?

On the other hand, the Name Al-Baseer (the All-Seeing) occurs so many times in the Holy Qur’an. Some of the places include

What is certain then, in which there is no doubt, that Allah Almighty comprehends all of His creatures with His Sight, from which nothing could be hidden whatsoever it might be.

Glory be to Him, Who is ever Present, and it is not befitting for His Majesty to be absent for even a single moment, during night or day.

And Glory be to Him, Who see what is in the darkness of the land, what is in the far depths of seas and oceans, and what is under the earth.

Glory be to Him, Who knows the tricks of the eyes, and what is concealed within the breasts.

According to Al-Ghazali, Allah, the All-Seeing is He, Who see all things, and His Sight is Exalted from having a like or a match, or a change.

Such being the case, it has the power to see the whole rea1ities of things in existence, with no flaw that might have its effect on the sight of Allah’s creatures.

Allah Almighty has granted both faculties to man, perchance he might know how Kind, Merciful and Compassionate Allah is towards him, to which he should be grateful.

If one intends to thank Him for the Grace of sight, he should reflect with the help of it the dominion of both the heavens and the earth, so that he might be guided to the Power of Allah, Who Alone has the right of service:

Do they see nothing in the government of the heavens and the earth and all that Allah hath created? (Do they not see) that it may well be that their tenn is nigh drawing to an end? In what Message after this will they then believe?” (Al-A’raf 185)

How Does One Get The Good Manners Related To thtat Name?

It is then incumbent upon everyone endowed with the faculty of seeing to consider with deep scrutiny the whole creation of Allah Almighty, and how it is completely perfect, perchance he might take heed.

One further should use this faculty only in what is good: therewith, he should read that which is a source of benefit to him, and do righteous deeds for which he receives rewards in the hereafter:

Whenever he sees a poor one, he should soon help him become free of want; and whenever he sees a weak one, he should soon behave kindly towards him; and whenever he sees a wronged person, he should soon help him take his right.

And whenever he sees an orphan or a needy one, he should soon show mercy and compassion to him.

And once he sees one endued with knowledge, he should show all respect and regard for him; and once he sees a wrongdoer, he should forbid him to commit injustice.

And once he sees something disapproved by the laws and principles of the religion, he should change it but legally and with just causes; and finally, whenever he sees something that is unlawful for him to see, he should soon lower his gaze from it, in response to Allah’s Command:

Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do.

Surah An-Nur 30

But, many are those endowed with the faculty of eyesight, therewith they fail to perceive the truth, and see the light on which they might be guided aright.

On the other hand, many are those, deprived of such a faculty, but, at the same time, they can, by virtue of the sight of their hearts, and the light of their minds and understandings, be able to see the truth and right guidance, of which their brothers who have the favour of vision are blind.

To be sure, the real sight then stems from the light of the sound heart, the shrewdness of mind, the sincere and true sense with which the faithful believer is endowed, and the inspiration which one gets out of his sincere faith.

To lose vision then is not to prevent one from attaining the truth, and having well acquaintance of the deep facts and realities, which could hardly be perceived by the eyesight.

It is further incumbent upon the faithful believer to know with certainty that Allah Almighty sees all that he does and acts, a fact for which he should observe Allah in all of his deeds.

And this is the faithfulness to which the Messenger of Allah, Allah’s blessing and peace be upon him, referred when he was asked by Gabriel who came to him in a form of a man, in order to instruct people in their religion:

It is to worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you cannot really see him, then you must consider that He is seeing you.

The following supplication might be fitting in this connection:

O Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing! Make me get benefit of my hearing and seeing, and make both of them a source of goodness for me (in the world and the hereafter).

It is narrated that the Messenger of Allah, Allah’s blessing and peace be upon him, used to supplicate Allah Almighty as follows:

O Allah! Make our portion of fearing You (as much) as to keep us therewith from disobeying You; and of Your obedience (as much) as to help us therewith attain Your Garden; of certainty (of faith as much) as to lighten therewith for us the (serious effects of the) distresses and disasters of this life.

And make us get benefit of our (faculties of) hearing, seeing and power, as long as you causes us to live; and make that a source of goodness for us; and enable us to exact retribution from those who are unjust to us, and help us against those who show enmity to us.

And do not make our (main) affliction in our religion; and do not make the (material benefits of this) life occupy our greatest concern, nor the utmost of our knowledge (beyond which it could never go); and do not help against us those who neither fear You nor have mercy towards us: 0 (Allah), Most Merciful, and Most Kind of those who are kind.
