Allahumma Allif Baina Qulubina Dua Meaning in English

Allahumma allif baina Qulubina means O Allah! Reconcile our hearts, amend what is between us, guide us to the paths of peace, save us from the darkness [and admit us] to light, and save us from obscenities, inwardly or outwardly, and bless our hearing, seeing, hearts, spouses and offspring. And accept our repentance, indeed You are the Ever Accepting of Repentance, the Merciful, and make us thankful for Your favours. All praise is due to You. Accept our good deeds and complete them for us.

Allahumma Allif Baina Qulubina Hadith

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas’ud: We did not know what we should say when we sat during prayer. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was taught (by Allah).

He then narrated the tradition to the same effect. Sharik reported from Jami’, from AbuWa’il on the authority of Abdullah ibn Mas’ud something similar. He said: He used to teach us also some other words, but he did not teach them as he taught us the tashahhud:

O Allah, join our hearts, mend our social relationship, guide us to the path of peace, bring us from darkness to light, save us from obscenities, outward or inward, and bless our ears, our eyes, our hearts, our wives, our children, and relent toward us; Thou art the Relenting, the Merciful. And make us grateful for Thy blessing and make us praise it while accepting it and give it to us in full.

Sunan Abi Dawud 969

Breaking Down the Dua

Each line in this dua is full of meaning and gives us a specific insight into how to live a life of peace, purity, gratitude, and unity with those around us.

  1. “O Allah! Reconcile our hearts”
    • This phrase asks Allah to create unity and love among us. Whether it’s family, friends, or the broader community, we’re asking Allah to keep our relationships grounded in harmony. This part is about mending any rifts or misunderstandings and bringing us together in a way that pleases Allah.
  2. “Amend what is between us”
    • Beyond unity, we ask Allah to fix whatever is wrong in our relationships. This could mean resolving disputes, healing wounds, or simply helping us understand one another better. It’s a plea for peace and mutual respect, asking Allah to help us treat each other with kindness and understanding.
  3. “Guide us to the paths of peace”
    • Here, we seek guidance for our personal actions and decisions, asking Allah to lead us toward peaceful solutions in life. Whether in family, community, or personal matters, this line emphasizes the importance of walking a path that’s safe, serene, and free from conflict.
  4. “Save us from the darkness [and admit us] to light”
    • We ask Allah to protect us from any form of ignorance, sin, or misguidance, which is often metaphorically referred to as “darkness.” This includes harmful behaviors, false beliefs, and anything that might take us away from the right path. By seeking the “light,” we’re asking for clarity, wisdom, and truth.
  5. “And save us from obscenities, inwardly or outwardly”
    • This phrase highlights the importance of purity, both inside and out. We ask Allah to protect us from engaging in any form of indecency or immoral behavior, whether in our private thoughts or public actions. It’s a reminder that purity isn’t just about appearance—it’s about what’s inside as well.
  6. “And bless our hearing, seeing, hearts, spouses, and offspring”
    • We often take our senses, health, and loved ones for granted, yet they are immense blessings. This part of the dua is a request for Allah to place His barakah (blessings) on our senses, our emotions, our families, and our future generations. It’s a reminder that every part of our lives—our family, our health, our perceptions—can be enriched by Allah’s blessings.
  7. “And accept our repentance, indeed You are the Ever Accepting of Repentance, the Merciful”
    • In this line, we turn to Allah with humility, acknowledging that we have made mistakes and asking for His forgiveness. It’s a reminder that Allah is always willing to accept sincere repentance, no matter how far we may have strayed. His doors of mercy are open, and this line reassures us of that.
  8. “And make us thankful for Your favors”
    • Gratitude is a recurring theme in Islam, and here we’re asking Allah to help us recognize and appreciate His blessings. Sometimes, we get so caught up in life that we overlook the good things Allah has given us. This phrase is a reminder to cultivate a grateful heart.
  9. “All praise is due to You”
    • By praising Allah, we’re acknowledging that everything good in our lives comes from Him alone. It’s a moment of recognition, a pause to give Allah His due for all that He has provided.
  10. “Accept our good deeds and complete them for us”
    • Lastly, we ask Allah to accept our deeds and make them count. We might do many good actions, but without Allah’s acceptance, they don’t reach their true potential. By asking Him to complete them, we’re seeking His help to turn our efforts into rewards and blessings.
