Hadith Related To Dua Before Entering Bathroom

Making du’aa upon entering one’s bathroom has been related from Anas, may Allaah be pleased with him, said that when the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, wished to enter the bathroom, he, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, would say: “O Allaah, I seek refuge in You from male and female devils.

Male devils the word used is: Khubth, and some scholars said that it refers to something undesirable, evil, censured, or harmful, and when the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, said:

Female devils the word used was Khabaa’ith, which, as some scholars say, refers to sins, or unrestrictedly refers to all censured actions.

Others said that Khabaa’ith refers to devils.

In referring to the purpose of this seeking refuge, a narration has been mentioned from Zayd ibn Arqam, may Allaah be pleased with him, who reported that the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, said:

These waste areas are visited by devils, so if one of you enters the bathroom, they should say: ‘O Allaah, I seek refuge in You from male and female devils.

Etiquettes of Entering Bathroom

In Islam, there are specific etiquettes (Adab) to be observed when entering the toilet. These etiquettes are based on the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and are intended to promote cleanliness, modesty, and respect.

5. Do not face or turn your back towards the Qiblah (direction of prayer):

• It is recommended not to face the Qiblah or turn your back toward it while using the toilet.

6. Use the left hand for cleaning:

• When using water for cleaning, it is recommended to use the left hand and an odd number of stones or tissue paper.

7. Use a minimal amount of speech:

• Avoid engaging in unnecessary conversation while inside the toilet.

8. Exit with the right foot:

• When leaving the toilet, step out with the right foot and say “Ghufranak” (I seek Your forgiveness).

9. Wash your hands:

• After using the toilet, it is important to wash your hands thoroughly.

10. Avoid urinating while standing in the toilet if possible:
    • The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) recommended sitting while urinating for better cleanliness.
