There’s nothing like buying your new outfit especially if it’s been a while since you’ve bought anything new. Dua when wearing new clothes is among the remembrance of Allah Most High in what you are doing.
It is well-known in Islamic jurisprudence that we are obliged to invoke Allah Most High while performing any action.
This invokes His aid and protection and reminds us of our devotion to Him.
When a Muslim puts on new clothes, he or she should remember that they are a gift from Allah Most High and not something earned through one’s own efforts.
Having gratitude for what one has is both an act of worship in itself as well as being another means by which Allah’s aid may be sought.

Narrated AbuSa’id al-Khudri:
When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) put on a new garment he mentioned it by name, turban or shirt, and would then say: O Allah, praise be to Thee! as Thou hast clothed me with it, I ask Thee for its good and the good of that for which it was made, and I seek refuge in Thee from its evil and the evil of that for which it was made.
Abu Nadrah said: When any of the Companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) put on a new garment, he was told: May you wear it out and may Allah give you another in its place.

Commentary
There is no doubt that one cannot bring to his soul benefit nor harm, except what Allah wills. There is no doubt that what we eat, drink and wear is from the favor of Allah, the Honored and Glorious is He, and that He is the One Who created it for us.
Had Allah not made it easy, it would not have been easy to obtain. If Allah, the most High willed, money would have vanished from our hands and we would not be able to achieve anything.
If Allah willed, He would make money present with us but we would not find anything to eat or wear or drink:
“Say (O Muhammad M) Tell me! If (all) your water were to sink away, who then can supply you with flowing (spring) water?
Everything with us of blessing is from Allah and amongst this is clothing. If Allah favors you with a new cloth, shirt or trouser or cloak or gutrah, or fanilah and you wear it, say:
‘O Allah, praise be to You, You have clothed me with it,’ and you mention it by its name, for example: ‘O Allah, praise be to You, You have clothed me this shirt, You have clothed me this trouser, You have clothed me this gatrah, You have clothed me this cap, You have clothed me this wrapper, You have clothed me this fanilah and so on.’
Whatever you wear and is new, praise Allah for it and say: ‘O Allah, praise be to You have clothed me this, I ask You for its good and goodness for which it has been made, and I seek your protection from its evil and the evil for which it has been made.’
This (the cloth) could be a source of evil for you or fire might consume its edge and it ignite till it engulfs the entire garment and engulf you.
There might even be on it poisonous things about which you are not aware. It may induce one to pride and tyranny over people.
Or it could be a source of fitnah (tribulation) which is one of the worst for of evils and corruption. Such is the like of the dresses which some women specialize in making, similar to the dresses of western disbelieving women.
The most important is that you say: ‘O Allah, I seek refuge with You from its evil and the evil for which it has been made.’ This is because it has been made and could be a means to evil.

Dua is involved in everything we do in all aspects of life, among the things we do every single day is when we wear clothes.
When we wear a garment there is something that we have to say and it’s part of the sunnah.
To praise Allah through this dua that he granted me this attire or garment without any power nor might from myself and again this is the beauty of Islam.
Look how you are expressing your poverty, your weakness, your vulnerability, and your need for Allah.
Even over something such as this garment, you say to Allah all praise is for.
Allah who has clothed me with this shirt, with these trousers, and provided it for me with no power and might.
Compare this to those who boast about their achievements, how they made their fortune, how they managed to make their projects successful on their own, with their power, and with their own intellect neglecting.
Attributing all of this to Allah shows you the difference between a true Muslim believer and a neglectful one.
The prophet SAW used to say dua when he wears something new.
The older is for something that you wear every day. There is another dua for what you say when wearing a new set of clothes.
This is soon you praise Allah and you acknowledge that it’s Him alone who made you dress in it.
Not only that you ask Allah to provide you from whatever good this was made for and whatever good it may bring to you and you seek refuge in Allah from whatever evil it was created for and it may bring to you.
What good and evil are we talking about?
Evil is when I wear this attire and I feel boastful, I feel arrogant, I feel more important than others.
This arrogance takes me straight to hell the goodness of such a garment is that it protects me from cold, that it covers my aura, that it makes me look decent.
So all of these have to be incorporated, they have to be at the back of your head whenever you wear such things.
Supplication is one of the important matters that every person should be keen on and adhere to in all the various affairs of his life.
Islamic religion did not leave anything in our life but made it clear to us.
Our beloved Prophet SAW taught us some of the supplications in the authentic Sunnah such as the supplication for putting on new clothes, which is recommended to supplicate with when putting on or taking off clothes.
This ensures that the human being is protected from everything, whether obvious damages or otherwise.
Benefits Of Dua When Wearing New Clothes
The supplication of wearing a new garment provides a person with protection from the various evils of the world, especially the evil eye and envy.
This supplication mentioned above, makes a person feel the grace and blessings of the Lord of the Worlds upon him; as he blessed him with this new dress.
Also, wearing the new dress makes a person feel happy and joyful, and that is one of the reasons you will be left out without worry, grief, and sadness.
Therefore, we have to thank and praise the Lord of the world for this blessing that some miss, like the poor, by mentioning a prayer for wearing a new dress.
It is a hope from Allah to make this garment a fulfillment of its purpose of covering yourself and keeping people’s eyes away from him.
In addition to the request represented in mentioning this supplication, it is that God Almighty removes the damages that are present in this garment such as germs, microbes, or such things that may cause harm to humans.
Finally, we note that this supplication helps to protect a person from envy, the evil eye, and even the jinn.
The supplication is itself is for the servant to turn to his Lord Almighty; to praise him and thank him for his great blessings and what he is blessed with.
While the supplication for wearing the new garment refers to the servant’s gratitude and praise for what Allah has provided him with this new garment or garment.
This includes that Allah preserves these clothes and that they are good for him, and protection from all bad or evil.
The supplication for new clothes also has a great meaning. It is seeking refuge from Allah from the evil of the garment, that is, from being acquired by forbidden or to be destroyed in the near future.
