Rabbana afrigh alaina sabran is one of the forty Rabbana duas that are mentioned in the Quran. This dua has its own place and purpose for reciting to Allah.

The Dua is mentioned in two different places in the Quran. The first place is found in Surah Al Baqarah verse 250 and the second place is in Surah Al a’araf verse 126.

In arabic, this dua is written as:

رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْراً وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وَانصُرْنَا عَلَى القَوْمِ الكَافِرِينَ

Transliteration: Rabbana afrigh alayna sabran wa thabbit aqdamana wansurna alal-qawmil-kafirin.

The full verse in Surah Baqarah verse 250 is:

And when they went forth to [face] Goliath and his soldiers, they said, “Our Lord, pour upon us patience and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people.

Tafsir of the verse

And when they advanced to meet Jalut (Goliath) and his forces, When the faithful party, who were few under the command of Talut, faced their enemy, who were many under the command of Jalut,

They invoked: “Our Lord! Pour forth on us patience…,” meaning, send down patience on us from You.

And set firm our feet, meaning, against the enemy and save us from running away and from feebleness, and make us victorious over the disbelieving people.

Second Dua

رَبَّنَآ أَفۡرِغۡ عَلَيۡنَا صَبۡرًا وَتَوَفَّنَا مُسۡلِمِينَ

Transliteration: Rabbana afrigh alayna sabran watawaffana muslimeen.

Meaning: Our Lord! pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims.

Allah, may He be exalted, said concerning the sorcerers of Pharaoh (interpretation of the meaning):

“They said: Verily, we are returning to our Lord. And you take vengeance on us only because we believed in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims.” [al-A’raf 7:125, 126]
