Is It Ok To Read Quran While Lying Down?
Yes, it is permissible to recite the Quran while sitting, while lying down, while reclining, while walking, while exercising. It is okay to recite the Quran of these conditions.
Particularly if you’re reclining and paying attention.
Because the previous verse says:
verily in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of the day and the night, there are signs proves for people who ponder and reflect and for people of intellect.
Who are they?
The following verse described them as those who remember Allah, who praise Allah, glorify Allah while standing, while sitting down, while reclining on the sides and they think about the creation of the heavens and the earth.
So mere, the remembrance of Allah while reclining is permissible.
Add to that there is a sound hadith, which is narrated by the mother of the believers, Aisha Radiyallahu Anha. The hadith is collected by Bukhari and Muslim.
She said, may Allah be pleased with her, the Prophet used to recline and he would put his head in my lap, and he would recite the Quran in this condition while I would be in my period.
Shaykh Salih al-Fawzan said:
There is nothing wrong with reading the Quran when lying down, whether one is lying on a bed or on the ground.
There is nothing wrong with that. A person may recite Quran whatever position he is in, standing or sitting or reclining, and whether he has wudu or is in a state of minor impurity, if he is reciting from memory. But if he is reading from the Mus’haf, then it is not permissible for the one who does not have wudu to touch the Mus-haf unless he has done wudu.
