9 Dua For Pregnancy in Arabic, Transliteration, and Meaning

Bringing a new life into this world is an incredible experience that many couples dream of. However, the journey of pregnancy is not always easy, and it can come with its own set of challenges and difficulties.

From physical discomfort to emotional stress, it can be a trying time for both the mother and father-to-be. In such moments, turning to Allah can provide a source of comfort and strength. But, is there any special Dua for Pregnancy?

Muslims believe in the power of prayer, and reciting duas during pregnancy is a common practice. Supplications are meant to offer protection, guidance, and blessings for a healthy and successful pregnancy, delivery, and baby.

Is There Any Dua For Pregnancy?

There is no any du‘aa’s in the saheeh Sunnah that are specifically for the pregnant woman or the baby. Whatever has been narrated concerning that is either fabricated or has been compiled by some scholars from verses and du‘aa’s that are suited to the occasion, without attributing any of that to Islamic teachings per se.

Best Duas For Pregnancy

As stated above, we do not have any reference or a hadith that quotes a specific invocation or an area to be recited for this reason.

But we may benefit from the ayat which have been mentioned in the Quran praying for yourself, your offspring, and your family member. Some of the Dua a pregnant woman can recite during pregnancy include:

Dua #1

رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ

Transliteration: Rabbi hab lee minas saaliheen

The meaning of the Dua is My Lord, grant me [a child] from among the righteous. Surah Safaat, Ayah 100

Dua #2

رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِنْ لَدُنْكَ ذُرِّيَّةً طَيِّبَةً إِنَّكَ سَمِيعُ الدُّعَاءِ

Transliteration: Rabbi Hab Lee Mil Ladunka D’urriyyatan T’ayyibah Innaka Samee-u’d Du’aa

Meaning: Oh Allah bestow onto me from You, pure children. Verily you are the listener of du’aas. Surah Al Imran, Ayah 38

Dua #3

رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامً

Transliteration: Rabbana hab lana min ‘azwajina wathurriyyatina qurrata a’yunin waij’alna lilmuttaqeena imama.

Meaning: Our Lord! Grant unto us wives and offspring who will be the comfort of our eyes, and give us (the grace) to lead the righteous. Surah Al Furqan, Ayah 74

Duas for The Difficulties Of Pregnancy

There are many Duas that the prophet SAW used to say during difficulties. Although they are not specifically for pregnancy you can recite them to Allah for making it easier for you. Some of them include:

Dua #4

لَآ إِلٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّيْ كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِيْنَ

Transliteration: La illaha illa anta subhanak ‘inny kuntu min aldhaalimeen.

Meaning: None has the right to be worshipped except You. How perfect You are. Verily, I was among the wrong-doers. Surah Al-Anbiya, Ayah 87

Of this dua, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is reported to have said: “No Muslim supplicates with it for anything, ever, except Allah responds to him.” (Tirmidhi)

Dua #5

اللّهُـمَّ رَحْمَتَـكَ أَرْجـوفَلا تَكِلـني إِلى نَفْـسي طَـرْفَةَ عَـيْن، وَأَصْلِـحْ لي شَأْنـي كُلَّـه لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أنْـت

Transliteration: Allahumma rahmataka arju, fala takilni ila nafsi tarfata ‘ayn, wa as-lih li sha’ni kul-lahu, la illaha il-la anta.

Meaning: O Allah, I hope for Your mercy. Do not leave me to myself even for the blinking of an eye (i.e. a moment). Correct all of my affairs for me. There is none worthy of worship but You.

Dua #6

يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّوْمُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيْث

Transliteration: Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum! Bi rahmatika astagheeth!

Meaning: O Living and Eternal Sustainer! By Your mercy I seek relief!

Dua #7

اللهُمَّ لا سَهْلَ إلا مَا جَعَلتَهُ سَهْلا وَ أنتَ تَجْعَلُ الحزْنَ إذا شِئْتَ سَهْلا

Transliteration: Allahumma la sahla illama ja-‘altahu sahla wa anta taj ‘alu al hazana etha shi’ta sahla.

Meaning: O Allah! Nothing is easy except what You have made easy. If You wish, You can make the difficult easy.

Dua #8

حَسْبِيَ اللَّهُ لَآ إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ

Transliteration: Hasbiyallaahu laa ‘ilaaha ‘illaa Huwa ‘alayhi tawakkaltu wa Huwa Rabbul- ‘Arshil -‘Adheem

Meaning: Allah is sufficient for me. There is none worthy of worship but Him. I have placed my trust in Him, He is Lord of the Majestic Throne.

Dua #9

لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ

Transliteration: La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.

Meaning: There is no might and no power except with Allah.

These invocations are okay and you recite any part of the Quran and it would benefit you and your fetus in the womb.

It would benefit your child, your baby after birth, as well as during feeding.

The Quran is shifa or leanness at every stage but there is no specific prescription of an ayah or an invocation to be recited during these occasions.

Dua For Pregnant Woman

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked:

Are there any verses that may be recited for the purpose of making childbirth easier for the woman?

He replied:

I do not know of anything of that nature in the Sunnah, but if you recite over the pregnant woman who is in labour that which speaks of things being made easier, such as the verse (interpretation of the meaning):

“Allaah intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you” [Surah al-Baqarah 2:185];

and that which speaks of childbirth and delivery, such as the verse (interpretation of the meaning):

“And no female conceives or gives birth, but with His Knowledge” [Surah Faatir 35:11] –

This will be beneficial; it has been tried and tested, by Allah’s leave.

The entire Qur’an is healing; if the reciter and the one to whom it is recited believe in its impact then it must inevitably have an effect, because Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And We send down from the Qur’an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism and act on it), and it increases the Zalimoon (polytheists and wrong-doers) nothing but loss” [Surah al-Isra’ 17:82].

This verse is general in meaning; healing and mercy includes healing of hearts from the diseases of doubt and desire, as well as the healing of bodies from physical disease.

The prayer of a mother for her child is answered, so there is the hope that the prayer of the pregnant woman for her baby will be accepted by Allah, may He be exalted, if she fulfills the conditions of supplication and avoids any impediments to it receiving a response.

She should offer a great deal of supplication, asking for the baby’s well being and that he be righteous, guided and enabled to do good, and that he will honour his parents. Adopted from IslamQA
