Rabbana La Taj'alna Fitnatan

This is a dua of Prophet Ibrahim and is found in Surah Mumtahina verse 5 and the meaning is

Our Lord, do not make us subject to the persecution of the disbelievers that is, do not give them power over us for our sins, so that they persecute us and prevent us as much as they can from practicing our faith,

which would cause them further confusion, for if they see that they have the upper hand, they will think that they are following the right path and that we are following the wrong path, and they will increase in disbelief and tyranny.

Our Lord! Make us not a trial for the disbelievers, Mujahid said,

It means, Do not punish us by their hands, nor with a punishment from You. Or they will say, Had these people been following the truth, the torment would not have struck them.

Rabbana La Taj'alna Fitnatan Lil

Qatadah said,

Do not give the disbelievers victory over us, thus subjecting us to trials by their hands. Surely, if You do so, they would then think that they were given victory over us because they are on the truth.

Ali bin Abi Talhah reported from Ibn `Abbas: Do not give them dominance over us, lest we suffer trials by their hands.”

And forgive us, our Lord for what we have committed of sins and evil deeds, and for our shortcomings in doing what is enjoined upon us.

It also means, cover our mistakes from being exposed to other than You, and forgive us for what (sin) is between us and You.

Verily You are the Almighty Who subjugates all things, the Most Wise, Who does all that is appropriate.

Verily, You, only You, are the Almighty, and those who seek refuge in Your majesty are never dealt with unjustly,

the All-Wise, in Your statements, actions, legislation and decrees.

By Your might and wisdom, grant us victory over our enemies, forgive us our sins, and mend our faults.
