Narrated `Aisha: (the wife of the Prophet) Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) used to invoke Allah in the prayer saying

“Allahumma inni a`udhu bika min `adhabi l-qabr, wa a`udhu bika min fitnati l-masihi d-dajjal, wa a`udhu bika min fitnati l-mahya wa fitnati l-mamat. Allahumma inni a`udhu bika mina l-ma’thami wa l-maghram.

(O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the punishment of the grave, from the afflictions of the imposter- Messiah, and from the afflictions of life and death. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from sins and from debt).”

Somebody said to him, “Why do you so frequently seek refuge with Allah from being in debt?”

The Prophet (ﷺ) replied, “A person in debt tells lies whenever he speaks, and breaks promises whenever he makes (them).” `Aisha also narrated: I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) in his prayer seeking refuge with Allah from the afflictions of Ad-Dajjal.

Sahih al-Bukhari 833

Commentary

Abu Hurayrah said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “When any one of you recites the Tashahhud [according to one report: when any one of you finishes the final Tashuhhud ], let him seek refuge with Allah from four things, let him say the above dua.

The word Ad-Dajjal is a hyperbole for the word ‘DajjaT, which means deceit. Hence, Ad-Dajjal means one who lies or cheats a lot.

Their are numerous hadeeths about the affairs of Dajjal. They are worth quoting and discussing because the Prophet SAW has said: “Between time of the creation of Adam and the Judgement Day, there is nothing greater than the mischief of Dajjal.”

Therefore, there has not been a Prophet who has not warned his Ummah about him although he will not come until the end of time.

Allah knows that Muhammad is the seal of the Prophets but the earlier Prophets warned about him. The wisdom behind this is to allude to the gravity of his trials although he will only come at the end of time. Indeed, his trial is great.

The Prophet SAW explained that Dajjal will enter every city to invite them to his worship and terrorize them except Makkah and Madinah.

This is because there will be angels guarding every passage leading to these two cities. The Prophet SAW stated that seventy thousand Jews of Isfahan will follow Dajjal (Antichrist).

They will be dressed in thin robes of green coloured satin. This means seventy thousand people will follow him from Isfahan, which is popular city in Iran.

The Prophet SAW also stated that he is one-eyed, and the Rabb (Allah) – the Mighty and Sublime – is not one-eyed. This is because loss of one eye is a defect and Allah is free from all defects.

He (may Allah shower blessings on him) also mentioned in the hadeeths that a young Muslim man will come out when he hears about him and explains his falsehood to the people.

So, the armed guards of Dajjal will meet him and say to him: Where do you intend to go? He will say: I intend to go to this one who has appeared.’

They will wish to kill him but some will say to the others, ‘Has your lord (Dajjal) not forbidden you to kill anyone without his consent? So, they will leave him and take him to Dajjal.

When he sees him, this Muslim man will testify that he is Dajjal whom the Prophet SAW had talked about. This will make him get angry at him.

He will give his order to have him sawn with a saw into two from the parting of his hair up to his legs; that is, he will cut him lengthwise.

He will place each half at a distance as reported in the previous hadeeth and walked between them. Then he will call him and he will stand up smiling. And he will say: By Allah, it has only increased my insight about you.

He will repeat this two or three times, then he will attempt to kill him again but he will find no way to kill him.

Allah will turn this man into copper, so Dajjal will not be able to kill him. This may be real copper, and Allah has power over all things, or he may become stiff such that sword cannot penetrate him.

All these are the attributes of Ad-Dajjal. The Prophet SAW also mentioned that he will have with him fire and paradise.

However, that which people considered to be fire will in fact be paradise and that which people considered his paradise will in fact be fire.

When Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked that it was said that he will have a mountain of bread, he SAW said: ‘It is easier for Allah than that.’ That is, even if he has this, it is easier for Allah to give him more than that.

Alternatively, it may mean that he does not have anything of such but he disguised having it. Nevertheless, we believe that a man named Ad-Dajjal (Antichrist) will emerge towards the end of time. Some of his attributes have been mentioned in this chapter and other places.

It was also narrated that in addition to seeking refuge from these four, one should also seek refuge from sin and heavy debt.

Dua for dajjal

As for the tribulation of Al Masih Ad Dajjaal, the Antichrist; Al Maseeh Ad Dajjaal is one whom Allah will send towards the end of time, a filthy man and a liar.

The word Kafir will be written between his eyes and any believer, whether learned or not, will be able to read it.

Allah, the Most High, will make him a source of trial for people. This is because some things will strengthen his influence on earth.

He will remain on earth for forty days;

  • The duration of the first day will be like a complete year,
  • The duration of the second day will be like a month,
  • The duration of the third day will be like a week and the forth
  • And the remaining days will be like every other day (in length).

He will call people to disbelieve in Allah and associate partners with Him and tell them that:

“I am your Lord”.

He will have paradise and hell with him but this is only the perception of people.

Otherwise, the reality of his paradise is that it is hell and the reality of his hell is that it is paradise.

As stated by the Prophet SAW in narrations, he will deceive the people with it and he will tempt whomsoever Allah wishes for him to tempt; his trial will be severe.

Indeed, the Prophet SAW said,

“There will be no trial in the world greater than the Dajjaal since the creation of Adam till the Day of Resurrection”.

He said, “I warn you about him. There is no Prophet that has not warn his people regarding him.”

(0 As a result, he mentioned it specifically among the trials of life because its trial will be great, we ask Allah to protect you and us from it.

May Allah Protect us and grant us success.
