Surah Maarij Transliteration, Arabic, And Translation In English

Surah Maarij which means The Ascending Stairways in English is the 70th chapter of the Qur’an, with 44 verses. The Surah takes its name from the word dhil Ma’arij in the third ayah. The word appears twice in the Quran.

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

1. سَأَلَ سَائِلٌ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ.
2. لِّلْكَافِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُ دَافِعٌ
3. . مِّنَ اللَّهِ ذِي الْمَعَارِجِ
4. 4. تَعْرُجُ الْمَلائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ
5. 5. فَاصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلا
6. 6. إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُ بَعِيدًا
7. 7. وَنَرَاهُ قَرِيبًا .
8. يَوْمَ تَكُونُ السَّمَاء كَالْمُهْلِ
9. 9. وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ
10. . وَلا يَسْأَلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا
11. . يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ يَوَدُّ الْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِي مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍ بِبَنِيهِ
12. . وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَأَخِيهِ
13. 13. وَفَصِيلَتِهِ الَّتِي تُؤْويهِ
14. 14. وَمَن فِي الأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ.
15. 15. كَلاَّ إِنَّهَا لَظَى 16
16. . نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوَى
17. 17. تَدْعُو مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّى
18. 18. وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَى
19. 19. إِنَّ الإِنسَانَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا 20.
20. إِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا
21. 21. وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ الْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا

• إِلاَّ الْمُصَلِّينَ
• 23. الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَى صَلاتِهِمْ دَائِمُونَ
• 24. وَالَّذِينَ فِي أَمْوَالِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ
• 25. لِّلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ
• 26. وَالَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ
• 27. وَالَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ
• 28. إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ
• 29. وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ
• 30. إِلاَّ عَلَى أَزْوَاجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ.
• 31. فَمَنِ ابْتَغَى وَرَاء ذَلِكَ فَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَ
• 32. وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَانَاتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَاعُونَ
• 33. وَالَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَادَاتِهِمْ قَائِمُونَ
• 34. وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَى صَلاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ
• 35. أُوْلَئِكَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ مُّكْرَمُونَ
• 36. فَمَالِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ
• 37. عَنِ الْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ
• 38. أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ
• 39. كَلاَّ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ
• 40. فَلا أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ الْمَشَارِقِ وَالْمَغَارِبِ إِنَّا لَقَادِرُونَ
• 41. عَلَى أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
• 42. فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا وَيَلْعَبُوا حَتَّى يُلاقُوا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ
• 43. يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَى نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ
• 44. خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ

Surah Al Ma’arij Transliteration

1. Sa’ala saaa’ilun bi ‘azaabinw waaqi’.
2. Lil kaafireena laisa lahoo daafi’.
3. Minal laahi zil ma’aarij.
4. Ta’rujul malaaa’ikatu war Roohu ilaihi fee yawmin kaana miqdaaruhoo khamseena alfa sanah.
5. Fasbir sabran jameelaa.
6. Inaahum yarawnahoo ba’eedaa.
7. Wa naraahu qareebaa.
8. Yawma takoonus samaaa’u kalmuhl.
9. Wa takoonul jibaalu kal’ihn.
10. Wa laa yas’alu hameemun hameemaa.
11. Yubassaroonahum; ya waddul mujrimu law yaftadee min ‘azaabi yawma’izim bibaneeh.
12. Wa saahibatihee wa akheeh.
13. Wa faseelathil latee tu’weeh.
14. Wa man fil ardi jamee’an summa yunjeeh.
15. Kallaa innahaa lazaa.
16. Nazzaa’atal lishshawaa.
17. Tad’oo man adbara wa tawallaa.
18. Wa jama’a fa aw’aa.
19. Innal insaana khuliqa haloo’aa.
20. Izaa massahush sharru jazoo’aa.
21. Wa izaa massahul khairu manoo’aa.
22. Illal musalleen.
23. Allazeena hum ‘alaa Salaatihim daaa’imoon.
24. Wallazeena feee amwaalihim haqqun ma’loom.
25. Lissaaa ‘ili walmahroom.

• 26. Wallazeena yusaddiqoona bi yawmid Deen.
• 27. Wallazeena hum min ‘azaabi Rabbihim mushfiqoon.
• 28. Inna ‘azaaba Rabbihim ghairu ma’ moon.
• 29. Wallazeena hum li furoojihim haafizoon.
• 30. Illaa ‘alaaa azwaajihim aw maa malakat aymaanuhum fa innahum ghairu maloomeen.
• 31. Famanib taghaa waraaa’a zaalika fa ulaaa’ika humul ‘aadoon.
• 32. Wallazeena hum li amaanaatihim wa ‘ahdihim raa’oon.
• 33. Wallazeena hum bi shahaadaatihim qaaa’imoon.
• 34. Wallazeena hum ‘alaa salaatihim yuhaafizoon.
• 35. Ulaaa’ika fee jannaatim mukramoon.
• 36. Famaa lil lazeena kafaroo qibalaka muhti’een. ‘
• 37. Anil yameeni wa ‘anish shimaali ‘izeen.
• 38. Ayatma’u kullum ri’im minhum anyyudkhala jannata Na’eem.
• 39. Kallaaa innaa khalaq nahum mimmaa ya’lamoon.
• 40. Falaaa uqsimu bi Rabbil mashaariqi wal maghaaribi innaa laqaadiroon.
• 41. ‘Alaaa an nubaddila khairan minhum wa maa nahnu bi masbooqeen.
• 42. Fazarhum yakhoodoo wa yal’aboo hattaa yulaaqoo yawma humul lazee yoo’adoon.
• 43. Yawma yakhrujoona minal ajdaasi siraa’an ka anna hum ilaa nusubiny yoofidoon.
• 44. Khaashi’atan absaaruhum tarhaquhum zillah; zaalikal yawmul lazee kaanoo yoo’adoon.

Surah Maarij In English

• 1. A sceptic has asked to hasten an inevitable punishment
• 2. for the disbelievers, which none can avert,
• 3. from Allah, Lord of the routes of ascent,
• 4. by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years.
• 5. So be patient [O Muhammad], and persevere in good grace.
• 6. Verily they regard it [the punishment] as something far-fetched,
• 7. but We know it to be close at hand.
• 8. [It will come] on a day when the sky will be like dregs of oil,
• 9. and the mountains will be like tufts of dyed wool,
• 10. and no relative [or friend] will ask about another,
• 11. even though they will be within sight of one another. The evildoer will wish that he could ransom himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his children,
• 12. and his wife and his brother,
• 13. and his kindred who stood by him,
• 14. and everyone on earth, in order to save himself.
• 15. By no means! It is a raging fire [that awaits him],

• 16. that will strip away the scalp.
• 17. It will call those who turned their backs and disobeyed,
• 18. and accumulated wealth and hoarded it.
• 19. Verily man was created fretful;
• 20. if misfortune befalls him, he panics,
• 21. but when good fortune comes his way, he becomes stingy
• 22. except those who pray;
• 23. who are steadfast in their prayers;
• 24. in whose wealth there is a specified share
• 25. for the beggar and the deprived;
• 26. who believe in the Day of Judgement
• 27. and who are apprehensive about the punishment of their Lord
• 28. For none is secure from the punishment of their Lord;
• 29. who restrain their carnal desires,
• 30. except with their wives or any slave women they may own, for then they are free of blame
• 31. But whoever seeks anything beyond that, such are the transgressors;

• 32. Those who are faithful to their trusts and pledges;
• 33. who are upright in their testimonies;
• 34. who are diligent in their prayers;
• 35. these will be honoured in the gardens of paradise.
• 36. What is the matter with those who disbelieve, that they rush headlong towards you [O Muhammad]
• 37. from the right and from the left, in groups [to mock you]?
• 38. Does each man among them hope to enter a garden of bliss?
• 39. By no means! Verily We created them from that which they know.
• 40. Verily 1 swear by the Lord of every point of sunrise and of sunset that We are surely able
• 41. to replace them with others better than them, and Our decree cannot be escaped.
• 42. So leave them to indulge in their falsehood and idle worldly pursuits until they encounter that day of theirs which they are promised;
• 43. on the day when they will come rushing forth from their graves as if they are racing towards a goal,
• 44. their eyes downcast, humiliation will overwhelm them. That is the day which they were promised.
